Reward Delivery Estimates (Extra Context)

Some of you have noticed a few month difference in our reward delivery estimates for Tan vs Black color Slings. I wanted to share some more context on this, and explain why there is a difference!

First, we want to get everyone these bags as soon as possible, we’re going to work hard to make that happen.

Last year, I went out on a limb and self-funded our first order of Tan bags after we dialed in the final sample, they arrived at our Workshop in Louisville, KY, just ahead of us launching. For Tan backers this means we should be able to get their rewards quickly (by May latest), we’re aiming for ahead of schedule on these!

Why wasn’t Black included in this first order? That’s because of MOQs (minimum order quantity) When working with a manufacturer, they don’t have a good setup for small batch, so we were required to meet an MOQ which is for one single color, and these MOQs are typically the same type of volume a larger brand will make when they order a product as well. In our case our MOQ was over 500 pieces (for each color)

So needless to say, a brand our size couldn’t self fund that many bags in both colors ahead of the launch of the product. Therefore, this Kickstarter campaign! You are essentially helping us fund our second order which will include Black and any other Tan bags we might need.

Why did we do this? We did this to ensure we could build trust with the backer community early by making sure we have our supply chain figured out and ready to go when we do launch, with a goal of delivering ahead of schedule.

So what about Black? These are expected to be delivered on the timeline (by July) we’ve advertised! Black Camera Slings are being ordered as soon as the campaign is over, once Kickstarter remits the funds to us from the campaign. The MFG will then order materials, which takes time, start production, finalize quality checks, and then ship to us. From there we will ship to you!

Hope this adds a layer of transparency to this process, and we greatly appreciate each of you for helping bring this vision to life!

How does Waxed Canvas look after it's aged?

Waxed canvas has a unique and beautiful look that comes with aging. This weathered appearance is called “Patina”, which is a shared feature you get with leather products as it is darkens with use and natural oil transfer. In the case of waxed Canvas, over time, the wax can wear off or fade, creating a more rugged appearance. Truly every piece will take on it’s own look as it experiences the adventures you take it on.

Will it fit as an insert inside other larger bags?

Yes!

Here are the dimensions: 12.5”x8.5”x4”, we recommend checking the interior specs of your larger bag to gauge how it might fit first, but it should fit well inside other larger bags and cases of different styles as long as the Height, Width and Depth of the larger bag permit!

I have a long zoom lens, will it fit attached to my camera?

We’ve tested with a good number of long zoom lens and found most to fit really well. The height clearance of the bag is 8.5”, generally if the totally height is within 8” it should be an easy fit, and you may be able to get away with a little more!

We recommend measuring from the tip of the lens to the back of the LCD to get the height of the kit you are trying to carry attached.

Additionally if you plan to carry the single camera with the one lens you’ll have more room to work with if you fit the camera horizontally (12” max) vs vertically (8.5”max)

Will you make a larger bag?

We’re just getting started! Our hope is to have a family of bags that work together in harmony with one another and that help meet the needs of photographers across all shooting environments.

We don’t have an ETA on a larger bag, but it’s on the roadmap. For now we’re focusing on the success of the Camera Sling, but we’ll be sure to keep you looped when that time comes. :)

What if I have a tablet or laptop larger than the 11" sleeve, will it fit?

Good question! In short, a larger device probably will not fit, but we haven’t tested across the board. We really tried to walk a fine line of providing the most functionality while also keeping the footprint of the bag as small as possible.

That said, it is possible you may be able to squeeze a larger device in the main compartment without a camera, but again we just haven’t tested! Max width is 12” so that’s what you have to work with.

Can I fit a water bottle?

Most likely yes! Depends on the water bottle. We recommend selecting a bottle that is 8” in height or less, and also a narrow opening at the top can help with zipping if it’s utilizing the max height.

We tested with the Kinto Travel Tumbler diameter φ2.9 x H7.9” which fit!

BackerKit FAQ

What is BackerKit?

BackerKit is a service that crowdfunded project creators use to keep track of hundreds to tens of thousands of backers—from shipping details, pledge levels, preferences and quantities, whether they have paid or had their card declined, special notes, and everything in between!

The BackerKit software and support team is independent from the campaign’s project team—BackerKit does not handle the actual reward shipping. For more information about the preparation or delivery status of your rewards, please check the project's updates page.

How does BackerKit work?

After the campaign ends, the project creator will send you an email with a unique link to your survey. You can check out a walkthrough of the process here.

I never received my invitation. How do I complete the survey?

The most common reasons for not receiving a survey email is that you may be checking an email inbox different from the email address you used to sign up with Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account, or it may be caught in your spam filter.

Confirm that the email address you are searching matches the email address tied to your Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or Tilt Pro account. If that doesn’t work, then try checking your spam, junk or promotions folders. You can also search for "backerkit” in your inbox.

To resend the survey to yourself, visit the project page and input the email address associated with your Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account.

How do I update my shipping address?

BackerKit allows you to update your shipping address until the shipping addresses are locked by the project creator. To update your address, go back to your BackerKit survey by inputting your email here.

When will my order be shipped, charged or locked?

That is handled directly by the project creator. BackerKit functions independently of the project itself, so we do not have control of their physical shipping timeline. If you want to check on the project’s status, we recommend reading over the project's updates page.

I completed the survey, but haven't received my rewards yet. When will they arrive?

As BackerKit does not actually handle any rewards or shipping, the best way to stay updated on the shipping timeline would be to check out the project's updates page.
